We packaged a year of in-person second-brain onboardings into one prompt. Three quick inputs trigger it, then Cowork takes over — interviewing you, scaffolding the wiki around your real work, and quietly tending its own context while you go about your week.

What is a second brain?

A private wiki your AI runs for you — with auto-context, while you work.

The idea goes back to Tiago Forte’s Building a Second Brain: an external store for the people, projects, ideas, decisions, sources, and questions you can’t reasonably hold in your head. Andrej Karpathy gave the pattern its modern shape — Obsidian as the IDE, the LLM as the engineer, the wiki as the codebase. Beautiful in theory. Days of patient scaffolding in practice.

We’ve been hand-installing this for executives, operators, and investors for the better part of a year. Every session taught us where people got stuck, what the wiki needs to be on day one, and what shape the LLM should give it so context tends itself from then on. That whole install — the interview, the schema, the file-system manners, the auto-indexing — is what the prompt below performs for you, live, inside Cowork.

Three answers won’t buy you a custom wiki on their own, and we won’t pretend they do. They’re a trigger. The real customization happens after you paste: the prompt interviews you for fifteen minutes, names the proper nouns of your world, writes the schema in your voice, and from then on the wiki keeps its own index, log, and graph organized every time you drop a new source in. You go live your week. The brain tends itself.

Three steps to install

Pick a folder — and open it in Obsidian.
This is your Obsidian vault. If you don’t have Obsidian yet, download it from obsidian.md, then open it and choose Open folder as vault. Point Obsidian at a fresh folder anywhere on your Mac — remember the path, Cowork will need the same one in a moment.

Open Claude Desktop. Start a new Cowork project on the same folder.
In Claude Desktop, click Cowork, then + New task, and pick the same folder you just gave to Obsidian. Cowork will read and write files there for you — no plumbing required.

When prompted, allow access, set Cowork to act without asking each time, and make sure the model is set to Opus for the richest interview.

Cowork is available on Claude Pro and Max. If you don’t see it, update Claude Desktop to the latest version.

Paste, hit enter, and watch it build.
In the Cowork chat, paste (⌘V) and press Enter. The assistant will introduce itself and walk you through a short interview. About twenty minutes in, you’ll drop in one real document, and your wiki begins to take shape inside Obsidian beside you.
When it’s done, hit Cmd+G in Obsidian for the graph view. Click around. That’s your second brain.
